Overview of Gynecology

Gynecology is the field of medical science addressing the diseases and the health of women's reproductive systems. The areas of specification under the modern gynecology are menopause, sex hormone problems, menstrual disorders, mal-development and infection of reproductive organs, malignant or benign tumors, infertility, obstetrics, in-vitro fertilization, artificial insemination, family planning, and abortion.

Gynecological care encompasses everything from routine exams and diagnostic services to outpatient surgery. Physicians in a general gynecology practice provide preventive and primary gynecological care as well as comprehensive medical and surgical care to women with diseases of the reproductive system. Medical and surgical methods are available to treat all gynecologic conditions including urinary incontinence, management of pelvic support, and pediatric and adolescent gynecology to females with diseases of the reproductive system. Special attention is given to the psychological and social needs of women with these conditions.
